Thread: CCW Classics - finish?

Results 1 to 19 of 19
  1. #1 Default CCW Classics - finish?
I bought a set of CCW Classics and they were tracked hard and somewhat neglected from soap and water in a previous life.

I'm debating my options of how I want to finish them.

    The car:

Option 1: put in some work and keep this finish

    From this (how they arrived):

    To this:

    Option 2: satin bronze

Option 3: satin black center, gloss black lip

Option 4: copper (would take a lot of car to pull this off)

I'm thinking of bringing them to Ocean State Hot Coat. What do you guys think?

Also - I will have two barrels to convert 17" wheels to 12" width. PM me if you are interested in them.

    Thanks

I've always been a fan of CCWs just machined or brushed.

all of mine were brushed face with polished lip, never been happier with a set of wheels.

The first picture looks like the previous owner may haved used chemicals on the brushed face to clean them. I had one drop of something get on one of my faces, like a water drop size, and it was ruined lol. I'm not sure if Chip over at CCW clearcoats them or what but thats my experience/opinion.

CCW is probably the best custom wheel for the $

Whatever you do to the centers I would keep the polished lip.

agreed with josh, paint the center, keep the polished lip...i pondered about painting the lips on my ssr's but i think it's that polished lip that make it those 2/3piece wheels

"Titanium" center, polished lip. Similar to the combo they are now. That or full polished. Love CCW! Either way, I agree with Josh. Congrats btw.

I'm really having a tough time with this! What about:
    competition gray face, polished lip;
    all competition gray;
or argent silver face, polished lip?

I think option 1 and 3 above could be similar to your suggestion of titanium and polished, Alex. That would look good. What finish are yours?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Keep it coming!

I could put in a days worth of work before deciding on powdercoating. Cleaning the barrels will take some time, but they could come out like new.

Is there any way to bring the brushed face back to like new condition?

I have to take two of the wheels apart (12" barrels are sold!) and could take the other two apart. This will make cleaning the barrels much easier as well.

Do you think sandblasting the face could do the job?

Sand/bead blasting won't give you a brushed look, it will be different but still look awesome.

That does look pretty good splatt.

I am going to sandblast the face and barrels to prep them for finish, so if they come out looking good, might as well throw them back together and call it a day.

Might come out similar to this (or is this natural?):

I really don't want to mess up a good thing and want to make the right choice. The problem is I keep looking and can't stop finding good options.

Alex's recommendation would look similar to this (not a bad look):

    this looks damn good too:

Either way, this will be the main purpose of them (my wheel's in a previous life - LS powered RX-7, almost sub 2 minutes at VIR):

Paging bigpoppa822 - I need to get a fender roll to tuck these before anything can go on. Please let me know when you'd be available. I still have the factory wheels and can head up to your garage.

Not all VW owners are doing it wrong.

Correction: the finish is right; the suspension settings are wrong.

Either way, this pretty much made my mind up. And it will still have that three piece look with the dual colors.

We'll see if I have the patience for this, but I like it:

    Now time to do work!
