Thread: Audi Q5 Down 1 Quart of Oil

  1. #1 Default Audi Q5 Down 1 Quart of Oil
So, Becky and I are driving to the Cape last night when a warning light comes on saying that the Q is low on oil. The car is just shy of 11,000 miles and we last got the oil changed at 5,000 miles. Have other Audi owners experienced this before where the car consumes oil at an unusually high rate? I now have to go down the street to through in a quart of oil and can't imagine that I should have to do this with a car northward of $40K. Any thoughts??

On my R8's I have gone between 4k-5K and then oil light comes on. I like the way the system works with no topping off, just wait for the light and put a full quart in. Also remember after 2 different services I had light going on not that long after, they probably fill closer to the min amount than max?

While I have never owned an Audi, I can tell you that both my 996TT and S65AMG burn oil. Depending on how I drive, I will need to add a quart to each car every 1000-2000 miles. This is even stated within the owners manual for my vehicles, so you may want to check yours, as what you're experiencing may be normal.

Its a known issue. If you are under warranty take it in to have an oil consumption test, your motor will likely get new rings or be replaced entirely.

Tracy Audi is right in Hyannis if you have a larger concern

I would not be that concerned About 1 quart in 6k miles, like I said good chance they only filled to min level. Now that you added a quart check the dipstick and just keep an eye on it. I do my services every 12 months and have never had to add more than 1 quart in-between

Which engine do you have? We're doing fine on oil at 26k. The engine just had something go really wrong with it this morning though. I'm going to have to limp it to the dealer on Monday.

M5 was that way and S4 seems to be the same way. I don't think burning a quart of oil every few thousand miles is that uncommon.

I agree, I think that a quart ~6k miles is actually decent.....but maybe I'm just used to the old s4 haha

Wow, I'm quite surprised. We have the 2.0T motor in it. In 36K miles in my BMW I have never had to add oil between services. All of these responses do a lot to ease my concerns...I was really worried that something was seriously wrong with the engine. Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it! I'll throw a quart in and bring it to Audi to have them check it out - make sure there isn't anything seriously wrong with it.

yea, for some reason those turbo motors burn oil. i talked to an audi tech in concern about a a5 2.0 with the oil light. he said that its common to add an extra quart between each service interval

Not sure if I have anymore M oil at home but you guys are welcome to it if I do. I've given away almost 5 liters already

My m3 would need a liter every 2.5-3k miles if I was beating the bag out of it. High revving engines, and FI motors burn some oil

My Audis I didn't own long enough to matter
