How about a different twist on the question:
Are there certain brands that are cleaner than others? I've heard some brands really make a mess in the gun like PMC. I know I have to clean the gun after each time I shoot it, but the less mess the better!

I have run all kinds of ammo in all of my guns and they are never really that dirty after an hour or two at the range. I just keep them clean, oiled and ready.

managed to find some 45 today (and also 40, but who shoots that?) at Plymouth Wal Mart. It was cheap, but I have never heard of the brand, PPU? It was brass cased at least. Could only buy 3 boxes but I was fine with that since I don't know how it will work in my gun.

Yea some are going to be dirtier then others but the various brands i shot so far i haven't noticed a significant difference in cleaner/dirtier ammo. Its not like you are firing black powder ammo...

just clean and oil your guns after each use and you should be fine

I have a noob question. I picked up some Hornady 9mm 147gr XTP. Can I use those in my G17? Seems like it has more grains in it than the other bullets I was using. Can my Glock shoot any 9mm regardless if the grains?

Thank you for the replies! They don't really teach you much when you go for your pistol permit.

Your G17 will eat anything. Having said that, try out all three yourself (115gr, 124gr, and 147gr) from a rest and see which you do best with. Stick w/ that load.

115gr is most common on the shelf
124gr does better with a longer bearing surface on the longer g17 barrel
147gr is typical duty load, some feel it recovers with faster sight picture on-target

147gr with 3.5gr bullseye makes a great subsonic round for suppressed use.
