I think you mean welfarism won't work. Socialism is a nationalization of all major production in a country. Do you really think this is possible here? Come on man. Canada is a welfare state. Aren't you supposed to be Canadian? Last I heard your so called socialist countries consistently ranked higher in the Economic freedom rankings meaning they are countries where it's easier to start a business. Not even worth discussing. Also just so you know, ACA is not a socialist idea as while the marketplace is nationalized to a degree, all service providers are privately owned.

    How do you figure?

If a Democrat hasn't seen fit to even mention changing the capital gains tax by the end of his second term, I can't imagine anyone else is going to.

For clarification, when you're speaking of 'welfarism' you're referring to the government programs aimed at keeping citizens from starving, right?

I just wasn't sure if you were talking about something like the hundreds of billions spent on bailouts or the billions in uncollected taxes on corporations who changed their mailing addresses.

Cool but of trivia is that taxes are pretty much at their lowest level in decades, in line with taxes during bush/Cheney. But Obama managed to cut 1.6 trillion from the deficit while making healthcare more affordable. Medicare's life has been extended for at least another decade without facing insolvency as was the state at the beginning of the Obama era.

This in Canada or us? Welfarism I am referring to is free healthcare and education that keeps literacy at near 100% in places like Denmark. I guess that does prevent people from starving yeah. Not sure what that stuff is about corporations, sorry, can you elaborate how it relates to the current discussion?

Ah, so Denmark is of the opinion that if the citizens thrive that the nation will also thrive?

Haven't they heard of trickle-down welfarism? They should probably just be giving corporate tax breaks and trusting in the inherent generosity of corporations to pass on the benefits to the common people.

Still not sure what you are arguing sorry. Never said Denmark said if citizens thrive the nation thrives. Don't even know what they consider thriving to be. I do know that they value equality above all else and that it works for them. All I was saying is that socialism is thrown around a lot but is not really practiced anywhere. Agree or no?

So what you're saying here is that you've twisted yourself to the point that you'll believe Iranian leaders (None of which have you cited or referenced. And I'm not feeling like doing your homework for you), over the leaders, and experts, of multiple countries and credible organizations. Stubbornness does create strange bedfellows I suppose.

    That's pretty apparent.

Presuming you believe others think and act as yourself, then yeah, I can see why you might believe that's true.

Then maybe you should stick to doing that, rather than making vacuous rants, that you yourself admit are pointless.
I would love to go tit for tat with you. But I have way better things to do with my time. Because I have to work extra hard and more hours to make up for all the money the govt takes out of my paycheck for social programs that have nothing to do with me.

But thank you for enlightening me and Scott about the world.

I just figured I'd throw some poop. No real argument on anything.

And, yes, I think things are branded as 'socialist' without really adhering to the academic definition which would include group control (not necessarily state control) of the means of production. Socialism can also mean the movement towards a socialist system, and I think most of the use of the term is an attempt to identify any social program as a step towards socialism and/or the product of a push for socialism.

AFAIK, Marxism/Leninism ("Communism") was the largest attempt to model both government and economic systems after socialist ideals. I really don't know terribly much about the economic policies of the Nazi's, but were they actually socialist also?

If it really worked like that, I'd get some tattoos.

Newsflash: every even remotely powerful country has income tax and people who complain about it. You bitch and moan about it here but it's a lot lower than it could be.

Well he does suck, but I guess you could say he is doing a good job on what I think he is trying to do which is bring down America. He is a follower of Cloward-Piven and is trying to bring down our system so it can be replaced. The massive debt he created over the last 6+ years will help accomplish his goal

True. But I don't like where my money goes. Give me a choice.
Single mom, no drug issues. Doesn't have time to work because father is a deadbeat. I'll happily pay for child care while she gets an education. I don't want to pay for the people with drug issues, Who sit around all day. While I work my balls off.

I don't like that last year I put over $60k into taxes. For what? I have every right to gripe and have an opinion about it. Then they have the balls to audit me, for a 5th! Year in a row! They want even more!

Obama has given more people free rides with his policies. And I'm not ok with that. If he was a republican I'd say the same damn thing.

Too much govt. too many freebies. That's what I'm pissed about.

But my original post was a joke. Some people take jokes as wishing I'll upon people and start arguments.

You got that right. My justification for never moving to Canada is the fact that no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since the early 90s.
