Google is now offering a service where you can stream your entire music library anywhere with an internet connection for free. There is also an Android app available for this. I signed up for it a few days ago and love it so far, it's easy to use, it even uploads your itunes playlists and what songs are your favorites. Great for people who don't have an ipod or like me who would rather listen to my PC than my phone at work all day.
    google.music.com

I attached a screen shot of the interface.

There are a few different services that let you do this now, but yes Mike you could have been a millionaire.

iCloud from apple will be doing this in the fall but it takes it one step further, it will find any songs you have loaded into iTunes, and then upgrade them to the highest know bitrate and sound quality hosted on their servers. So if I recorded a CD in early 2005 with a crappy ripping program Apple will upgrade it when I load it to their servers.

I think Amazon prime has a similar service as well.

Mike you better get a move on with a similar app for your movies, its gotta be next.

Yeah Amazon has a service that's similar too but only allows a certain amount of free storage then you have to pay. Audiogalaxy is a free similar service but I think (not sure) you have to keep the host computer on.

A nice bonus with Amazon prime is you get perks when you purchase on amazon, like free shipping.

It sounds like iCloud is going to be the best service when its running because it will be similar to dropbox with images, files and contacts syncing between all of your IOS devices through the cloud. (iPad, iPhone and apple OS 10.6 and later)

it's also unclear whether Amazon and Google's services are legal. Both have enough cash to pony up if called out on it, but being unlicensed and having acquired the attention of the recording industry other things could happen...

interesting to see how this plays out once iCloud (full paid up with the RIAA vampires) rolls out...

of course their legal teams have this handled already. I bet the subscription fee once the full product launches actually is partially attributable to payment of royalties. I believe the iCloud doesn't stream the specific song off your computer but the same song off of their own library.

Amazon and Google are NOT licensed. Ars (GREAT tech site for those who've not been) covered this just a day ago in depth:

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...er-illegal.ars

They conclude Amazon and Google might be OK, but they are definitely not sure

iCloud does indeed stream their copy from the cloud (freeing you from uploading your music -- they scan your iTunes and send the results to iCloud for availability by you; if they don't have your song, then it's uploaded for your use)
