Just painter tape the whole bumper.

Many people use blue painters tape. The blue tape is more than twice the $ as the plain masking tape. Blue tape adhesive is formulated to release easily after long term use. I only taped my first year and switched to the regular tape after trying it a few times. The cones do very little damage to the paint and tape will protect it. What really happens is that the cones get run over a lot and they get black tire marks on them. That black comes off on your car when you hit them. Goof Off from the paint dept at Home Desperate will easily remove the marks. Goof Off is the ONLY product that can remove the black marks from a clear bra.

You have less to worry about for the body in autocross than any other type. Scruffy leaves those black marks on because we like them and it proves the car isn't a garage queen.
Just tape the parts you don't want to risk on debry and you're all set.
I have seen some crazy tape jobs though. lol

If your car has a decent wax job the cone marks will come off easily. Most clubs use very soft cones that leave no damage except in the cold weather when they become hard and can damage fiberglass and plastic parts if hit wrong. Best way is just avoid hitting the cones!

$35-55, a valid drivers license, and it sure helps to belong to a club or two.

It helps to have your own helmet, so you may want to factor that in if you plan on getting into it.

I figure one day I will break down and do this....I just hate the idea of hitting cones with my car.
And I think I would get lost on the course. It looks confusing when I watch Scruff's video.

Any cone marks will buff out, or get Pete to tape everything except the tires and windows!
I didn't get lost, After you walk the course it becomes clear where to go, you walk it with Scruff and you get the in depth analysis of where you shave seconds off your time. And don't go by his video, he drives like a man possessed.
